L’ÉTOILE-DU-NORD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
New school construction

Share
Description
Construction of a new elementary school in St-Émile according to LEED V4 requirements.
The work required clearing the entire site, as well as grubbing before the works began. It was also necessary to carry out a blasting phase to carry out the excavation work of the building since it rests on rock.
Among the challenges of the project, there was certainly the tight schedule which didn’t allow any flexibility in space time, the project to be completed before the start of the school year in September 2021. A large part of the project also took place in winter, which implied having a perfect coordination to ensure that the building’s delivery deadlines were met.
This new elementary school accommodates 300 students, including two preschool classrooms and twelve elementary classrooms. The L-shaped building is erected on a hybrid structure of steel and wood. The building’s architecture includes large windows, full-height curtain walls and staggered wall sections in modular and partly cantilevered shapes.
The school is fully electrically powered and heated by aerothermal heat pump systems with air exchangers.
